Note: To connect to the UW Mainframe, you must either be connecting while on your local campus' network or while using your campus' VPN client if you are located off-campus. For example, UW-Madison users connecting from off-campus would need to connect via before being able to connect to the mainframe. • The TN3270 program was developed by Brown University and is available for download from their site. Begin by from Brown University. Once downloaded, double-click on the tn3270_X_3.3b6.dmg icon. • A folder should then appear.
At a minimum, select the tn3270 X.app file and drag it to your Applications folder. You may also optionally drag the other folders to the Applications folder, but these are not necessary for TN3270 to run. • Double-click on the TN3270 icon (which you just copied to the Applications folder) and click Open on the prompt. • Enter the following in the connection window: Host Name: blue.doit.wisc.edu Window Title: UW Mainframe • Click on the icon for Special settings shown above, and specify the following: Port Settings: 923 Security: SSL Dropdown: TLS 1.0 Preferred • Click OK to close the special security settings window, and then click on Open Connection to connect to the mainframe. Note the lock at the bottom of the screen preceding the date and time. This confirms that you are securely connected to the mainframe. • To save these connecting settings for future sessions, click on File, then Save Default Settings.
